is to be a positive learner

Vision, Goals & Values

As a Hay Park School positive learner I will:

Believe in my potential

Achieve my dreams

Succeed through life

Ko ngā pae tawhiti o te ākonga ngākau pai o te Kura o Hay Park:

Me whakapono i taku pito mata

At Hay Park School our vision is achieved through fostering our core values:

Whakaute - Respect

Manawaroa - Resilience

Kaitiakitanga - Responsibility

As a school the Hay Park School staff work in partnership with our community by:

  • Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all ākonga and their whānau.
  • Building powerful, reciprocal partnerships that value expertise.
  • Raising each other’s expectations for learner progress and achievement.
  • Developing capability to support children’s learning through home-school partnerships.
  • Enabling whānau to contribute and influence policy and practice.

In partnership with our community we prepare our ākonga to be successful learners who have the ability to take action to shape their future.

Our learning programmes are based on high quality instruction that is future focused, culturally responsive and inclusive.

At Hay Park School we work to prepare our students to be successful ākonga.

This means meeting learning needs to help them be:

  • Literate and numerate.
  • Critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Creative and reflective thinkers.
  • Able to persevere.
  • Able to set and achieve goals.
  • Motivated to strive for personal excellence.
  • Able to relate well to others.

When ākonga leave Hay Park School we want them to:

  • Be achieving at or above the expectation in reading, writing and maths so that they can continue to be lifelong learners.
  • Be confident to accept challenges and take responsibility for their learning, with a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Be capable and confident thinkers and learners, and communicate effectively using a range of tools.
  • Make good decisions about their learning, behaviour and relationships.
  • Respect Māori as tangata whenua and celebrate the variety of ethnic groups and cultures who make up our society.
  • Be aware of their special talents and abilities.
  • Be motivated to strive for personal excellence by setting and achieving their goals.
  • Be concerned citizens who are informed about New Zealand and the world.
  • Have a strong sense of responsibility and take an active part in bettering the lives of others around them.

Our learners show the Hay Park Way by:

  • Being respectful by caring for our environment, caring for ourselves and others, following instructions, appreciating differences, using kind words and a friendly voice.
  • Being responsible by being aware of others around us, following instructions, using equipment correctly, staying within boundaries and reporting problems to an adult.
  • Being resilient by asking questions and seeking clarification, asking for help, being prepared and organised for learning, giving our best effort, staying focussed, completing tasks and using logic.

When students show the Hay Park Way at school they are rewarded a green ticket. Students collect green tickets to reach various special rewards, such as:
